Should you detox before jumping in to a new way of eating?
Studies show that detoxing before starting a new way of eating can help decrease food cravings, help your body rid of waist, toxic chemicals, assist with digestive issues, aide in weight loss, reduce muscle aches and fatigue and decrease inflammation. Toxicity has been linked to diseases such as dementia, digestive issues, food allergies and heart disease. Studies show that if you eliminate certain food groups from your diet like Processed meats, fish high in mercury, eliminate sugars, and some grains this will give your digestive system a break, which can allow the body to better absorb nutrients.
There are several ways to detox such as liquid cleanses, fruit and vegetable juices, and or smoothies. Cleanses do not just come in the form of liquid cleanses they can also be done with solid whole foods such as plant-based fruits and vegetables. keep in mind that no one person is the same so what works for some may not work for others chose what fits your needs the best. The best cleanse that I have tried during my journey is JJ Smith 10 day Green Smoothie Cleanse. Doing this cleanse allows you to have options with smoothies and swap out for small meals if you can not just do the smoothies. On this cleanse you are never left feeling hungry because you have options. Studies show that a 10 day cleanse can help kick start your weight loss journey but the effects are not long term. Once completing any cleanse you have to change your way of eating or doing a cleanse will be pointless.
Cleanses aren't effective for long-term weight loss. When you cleanse you are losing water weight, carbohydrate stores and stools, that you can gain back once you resume a regular diet.

How to properly come off of a cleanse
The worst thing that you can do when coming off of a cleanse is go right back into your old eating habits or over eating. This will casue bloating and or weight gain. Start by making healthier decisions. The best way to do this is to eaze into things. Simple ways that you can do this is by having a juice or a smoothie for breakfast and or other foods throughout the day like pureed vegtables, sauteed greens, proteins like nuts, legumes, eggs, healthy fats, and soups. When chosing to add meat back into your diet better options would be organic lean meats. Be mindful to monitor portion sizes you should not be eating to get full. A good rule of thumb is to consum preferably 3 small meals and three small snacks. This will help boost your metabolism and avoid feelings of hunger throughout the day. If your stuck on how to monitor your portions use measuring devices such as measuring spoons, cups, food scales, eat off of smaller plates or you could utilize the my plate tool. Another helpful tip would be to drink water before your meals as well as drink water during the day. Last but not least avoid binge eating this will land you right back into the same predicument you were in before you started your cleanse.
